The Rise Up Pitch

The Rise Up Pitch aims to help find and support the next generation of successful entrepreneurs.

New and exclusive to NU students and graduates, the programme offers the chance to work alongside some of the region’s most influential and experienced entrepreneurs and business professionals.

The Rise Up Pitch gives access to a network of potential investors and a chance to win £1000 as well as invaluable guidance tailored to your needs and connections that could last for the life of your business.

Business School Successes

Previous to the launch of The Rise Up Pitch, many Business School students were successful winners of the business planning competition Enterprise Challenge. Here are a few of the success stories:

Winners of the Culture and Creativity Award, 2010

The girls from Queen Bee CandlesQueen Bee Candles were announced joint winners of the Culture and Creativity award. The team of five students picked up a £500 prize for creating a company that makes handmade organic beeswax candles. These help to protect the environment while supporting the ‘Save the Honey Bee’ campaign, with the girls promising to donate 20% of all profits to the campaign. 

The girls are currently trading at farmers markets around the North East and one of the team, Samantha Kerrison commented: ‘We are proud to win the Culture and Creative Award. The prize will give the business a great financial boost that will help to impact directly on our environment.’

Isabel Bradshaw, Francesca Sexton-Wainwright and Lauren Skerritt
Winners of the RMT New Trader Business Plan Award 2009

Isabel Bradshaw, Francesca Sexton-Wainwright and Lauren SkerrittIsabel, Francesca and Lauren set up their company ‘Beautiful Bottoms’ as part of the ‘Business Enterprise’ module during their BA Marketing and Management degrees. The business sells handmade silk underwear and since they started trading last year they have already received celebrity endorsement and secured boutique orders around the UK.

Matthew Scott
Winner of the RMT New Trader Award (Business Plan and Pitch) 2008

Matthew ScottMatt set up his company MES Footwork during the final year of his BA Marketing and Management degree. The company sells custom made trainers from recycled clothing which are unique to each individual’s specifications. After less than two years in business, the online venture has attracted celebrity customers (the latest high profile fan is X Factor winner Joe McElderry), and has secured its first high street deal with Fenwicks department store in Newcastle.
