I will not be in Newcastle until Monday 3rd October 2011. What should I do?
All students are expected to be present for Welcome Week (which is Monday 26th September to Friday 30th September 2011 inclusive). However, if you do not expect to be able to attend by this date- for example, because of illness or other serious difficulty- you should notify the relevant contact in the Undergraduate Office in writing as soon as possible. Upon arrival, you should then report to the relevant Student Support Office.
Who is my Personal Tutor?
All students will be assigned a personal tutor during Welcome Week. If you have any questions or need advice before that, please contact either your degree programme director or the relevant programme secretary.
When do I get my timetable?
Lecture timetables will be issued during Welcome Week by your Degree Programme Director. They will explain the timetable to you and advise you on any extra classes such as seminars, workshops or practicals. It is very important to attend the first lecture for each module as the Module Leader will explain the timetable in more detail.
Is there a reading list for my course?
Reading Lists for each module will usually be provided during the first lectures. We are usually unable to publish reading lists in advance as most publishers update text books over the summer. Lecturers may have decided to change text books over the summer on the basis of student feedback from previous years.
It is very important that you wait until you have received the official reading list to ensure that you buy the right editions of books. There are many second hand books shops and book sites available to students and you will be directed to these when you arrive.
What do I need to bring with me?
It would be very helpful if you could remember to bring the following with you to your Welcome Week sessions:

I’m living in Halls of Residence. What is the best way to get into University?
When moving to a new city we understand it can be a daunting prospect finding your way around. For this reason we have provided some travel directions for the Hall’s of residence that are situated outside of the University campus. These aren’t the only routes but may help when your first finding your feet.
Henderson Hall: 3 miles, 15min bus ride
St Mary's College: 30 min walk, 10 min bus ride.
For bus times and fares refer to Nexus Travel Line or contact them by telephone on 0871 200 2233. Calls to this number will cost 10 pence a minute from a landline and considerably more from a mobile.
Bowsden Court : 2 miles; 5 min metro journey.
The closet metro route is from South Gosforth metro station which will take you directly to Haymarket; this is located 2 minutes from campus. Bus routes will also be available, for these ask at your accommodation reception who will provide you with directions and route numbers.

All other Halls are no more than a 10 minute walk into campus with Marris House, Richardson Road and Castle Leazes conveniently close to the University Sports and Recreation Centre.
