Brief description of career since graduating…
Initially trained at Ernst & Young - passed first tax exams there then moved to KPMG in 1993 and completed exams. Been with KPMG since then working in Newcastle, Edinburgh, Leeds and London.
Your current role: What are your responsibilities, what is a typical day like, what are the highs and lows of the job?
My role is to lead (along with my fellow Partner) the tax team of some 40 individuals in provision of tax compliance and advisory services to our clients.
No typical day but involves advice on complex transactions, strategy meetings, general catch up with clients.
Business Development is a core part of my role, which is a real high as I enjoy the interaction with clients and targets.
I also lead our offering in the Renewable Energy sector which is very exciting particularly in the North East.
What are your main memories of your time at the Business School?
Two years of great socialising and playing football followed by my final year of hard but fun graft in making sure I came away with a decent degree.
Specific memories of Level 2 on a Friday night, UAU games on a Wednesday, Keith Cuthbertson excellent lectures and cramming for weeks in the Robinson Library.
