Current Job Title: Service Manager
Current Company: Bury ILD
I am working as service manager for supported living. Individuals with learning disabilities reside in their own properties enjoying independent lives. My role is to provide staff for individuals, manage staff and to look after day to day living activities. This involves coaching, training recruitment and management.
My typical day is busy & full of challenges at work. Mostly it’s doing reports, staff monthly rota, activities monitoring, communication, wellbeing planning, supervisions and meetings. I am also involved in marketing & communication which involves dealing with marketing opportunities.
In my job I work closely with families of the individuals, I communicate with them on regular basis. I work hard to keep all stake holders as much satisfied as is practically possible. I carry out service audits on a regular basis and then write the reports.
My highs of the day are when individuals I am managing are happy and they achieve their goals, or they start a new activity and the family members are satisfied. A normal low day is when I struggle with staffing issue due to sickness. It’s not an issue as such but I prefer consistency in support work and it does become a struggle at times.
Apart from the normal activities I train in house. Most recently I have run a short individualized session for individuals we support. I manage to compile the training material from existing material and have wonderful productive sessions. It was a new learning curve for me and an opportunity to develop in my career. I enjoy developing training material & delivering as part of my learning & development.
My learning & development classes during postgraduate study. My lecturers were brilliant and they enhanced my learning. I enjoyed studying in the library. It was the perfect place to challenge my brain and gather as much information as possible.
