Internationalisation Strategy

It is Newcastle University Business School’s strategic intent to realise the ‘globally respected’ dimension of our vision through demonstrating our ability to attract, high quality international students, support their learning while here and maintain relationships with them as alumni; to offer a curriculum which prepares all our students to operate in the global environment;  to attract excellent staff from around the world and to offer our staff opportunities to work with colleagues across the globe; to conduct research of the highest international standards and, to research comparative and international themes, and to conduct some of that research in collaboration with academics in universities in other countries, to offer a welcoming environment for staff, students and visitors, and to work in partnership with appropriate institutions across the globe.

In developing our international partnerships we operate at a number of tiers or layers. A common theme running through all the layers is that the partners must have a high reputation in the area that they work in. The five tiers are:

Tier 1 ‘core partner’ institution which collaborates with us across all the dimension of internationalisation. Our intent here is to have one such partner in each continent.

Tier 2 major research collaborative partner

Tier 3 curriculum/programme development partner

Tier 4 student mobility partner

Tier 5 student access partner

This strategic intent is reflected in our mission and values through:

  • Being committed to an innovative and supportive learning environment that is international in its perspective;
  • Being committed to internal and external engagement which builds partnerships that are mutually beneficial, educationally innovative and make a measurable contribution to the global knowledge economy;
  • The generation of research knowledge that can be applied in practice and is generated by a culturally diverse and internationally orientated body of scholars.
