The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is offering 15 awards of £2000 to the highest achieving Masters degree applicants across the Faculty. Scholarship awards are for UK/EU students who are 2011 Newcastle University graduates studying full time HaSS masters in 2011. Applicants must be expecting high 2:1/first degree honours.

Value of Award
Students classified as UK/EU for fee purposes will receive a £2000 tuition fee discount for 2011 entry into full time Masters level study.
How to apply

Applicants are required to complete a 350 word personal statement to include motivations, why you should be considered for an award, why you applied and career direction.

Newcastle University has received funding from the Regional Development Agency, One North East, to provide a limited number of studentships to outstanding UK/EU postgraduate taught students to study in 2010/2011. Business School courses which are eligible for the studentships are:
Supported students will be expected to demonstrate a connection with North East England and a condition of the award will be the expectation that an industrial project is carried out with a regional company.

Newcastle University offers a large number of partial scholarships to prospective international postgraduate students. This scholarship is offered as a three year PhD studentship for a full time student undertaking a PhD in economics and starting their studies in 2010/11. If you have been resident in the UK for at least three years (not for the purposes of education) you can apply to the Economic and Social Research Council for awards to cover the cost of both tuition fees and maintenance. The School has ESRC recognition for 3-year PhD study (assuming a prior Masters qualification) and CASE awards in the economics subject area. Citizens of the EU are eligible to apply to the Research Council for fees only awards. Applications should be submitted through the School - see contact details below for enquiries. The School does not routinely provide funding to PhD students for fees and maintenance, but on occasion has specific studentships linked to staff research projects, endowments etc. In these cases, the studentships will be advertised openly, and it is usually targeted at a discrete area of research.
International students, depending upon their nationality, may apply for awards from the British Council, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the EU and Overseas Research Students' Award Scheme (ORSAS). The University also offers partial scholarships to help international students to fund their studies here.
