AMBA logoMBA in Entrepreneurship

The MBA with a track in Entrepreneurship is a new kind of MBA, developed by Newcastle University Business School. It combines proven MBA content with leading edge thinking on entrepreneurship and global experience. It is designed to support you in developing the necessary frameworks and skills to contribute entrepreneurial leadership in your chosen career - in either new ventures, or a corporate or public service or voluntary setting. It offers you the chance to hone your key skills in identifying, exploiting and managing business opportunities.

The programme provides students with opportunities to develop an advanced understanding of:

  • The social, political and environmental contexts within which entrepreneurship operates.
  • Current research on stimulating entrepreneurship, managing enterprise development programmes and managing the transformation of ideas into successful opportunities.
  • Leadership requirements and best practice in entrepreneurial management. This involves exposure to thought leaders and champions from specific sectors across the globe.
  • Core management skills required - strategic and operational frameworks for encouraging and managing entrepreneurship.

This programme is aimed at students who intend to seek roles in organisations that value entrepreneurial thinking and the application of innovation, or alternatively, start their own business. It is tailored to ‘post experience’ management professionals from any business
or public or ‘third sector’ organisation. The programme is therefore an appropriate choice for those considering roles in private equity, or companies with a strong growth curve, or management consulting for example. It will also suit those with a desire to be ‘agents of change’ in institutions with a need for entrepreneurial leadership and management. It is relevant to those seeking a strategic management position in a large organisation or a self employed or consultancy role.

Students will develop:

  • High level strategic, creative, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to implement research projects to a professional standard
  • Ability to plan, implement and deliver initiatives in your chosen field (public / private / third sector)
  • Professional communication skills – including written, oral and presentation skills
  • Influencing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Entrepreneurial leadership Skills

The scope of the content is from new start up businesses to multinationals that seek to innovate or diversify, to large and complex public sector organisations delivering against multiple stakeholder needs. The focus is on assessing and exploiting opportunities. Emphasis is placed on practical strategic issues like joint venture, supply chain and sales channels. It will involve you exploring an opportunity for a particular business that you are involved in or a new business relationship that you wish to develop during the course.
