Pathway in entrepreneurship

Students have the opportunity to follow a pathway in entrepreneurship by doing a number of specialised electives which may include: Social Entrepreneurship; Entrepreneurial Finance; Innovation; Small Business Development.

Elective modules                                           

The electives vary each year but may include: management consultancy, leading change, managing information, international marketing, managing projects, corporate Social Responsibility and business ethics, Finance and investment, corporate sustainability and turnaround.

Dissertation

You can choose either to write an academic dissertation or a report based on a project that you complete within an organisation (such as your current employer, if appropriate).  Your tutors will agree with you the exact nature of what you will deliver.

Company project

The company project is a new and innovative initiative. It is an opportunity to put your new skills into practice in the real world. The range of companies is excellent: regional, national and international organisations of different sizes and in different sectors.

The option of a company project increases the attraction of our programmes to those who seek opportunities for applied learning on a global scale. There is great flexibility for developing both learning and leadership

Language opportunities

As part of the MBA’s focus on developing global leaders, you will be required to study a new language. Beginners classes are offered in a number of languages including Spanish, Mandarin (Chinese), and other languages depending on demand.  International students also have the option of attending in-sessional English language courses run by the University’s INTO centre.

Induction

The induction week provides an excellent bridge between the world of employment and full-time study. There will be opportunities to reflect on your personal goals, learn about cross-cultural working, and meet with fellow students and academic staff.

Highlights of the induction week include events such as team building and guest speakers, as well as getting to know the city of Newcastle. Skills sessions include academic writing and how to make the most of online resources available through the Business School.
