Aims

To develop an understanding of theories, practices and concepts that relate to art and enterprise by examining entrepreneurial and freelance practice in the cultural sector in the UK

Original Summary:
This module provides a detailed introduction to art and enterprise by placing the subject into current working practices in the sector in the UK. It will cover the broad range of practice, including that of freelance individuals and small-scale, independent organisations, examining historical development and current and emergent models. It will examine how organisational, legal, financial and networking structures operate within the sector and the similarities and differences between these and structures in other sectors – eg the notion of cultural capital.

Outline Of Syllabus

This module will introduce the variety of practice in the sector through close involvement of those working in the sector. It will look at how any successful working business model needs to be both visionary and responsive, how those working in the sector sustain a critical dynamic between these and how to identify and manage resources to realise projects.
