Here you can find information on how to apply for our PhD/MPhil and DBA programmes.
You should have a good honours degree in a relevant subject, or an equivalent qualification with relevant work experience, and should demonstrate their capacity and potential for succeeding in a research-driven environment.
Masters-level qualification in a relevant subject area would be advantageous. If you do not have a Master’s degree with research training you will be expected to follow a research methods course.
If your first language is not English and you have not already studied successfully in an English-speaking environment, you will be required to provide evidence of advanced proficiency in English, such as IELTS 6.5 or equivalent (with no less than 6.0 in any element).
Our INTO Newcastle University Centre can provide extra tuition to help you meet the University's English language requirements.
Applications should include a full CV, a brief research proposal of 1,000-2,000 words that outlines your research interests and fit with the school’s existing research activities, and a personal statement of around 500 words setting out your reasons for applying and how pursuing a doctoral research degree fits in your long-term goals and ambitions.
It is important that your research proposal is well aligned with the research activities of the school. We therefore encourage you to carefully examine the research profiles of our academic staff and contact our programme staff below before applying to enquire about or discuss specific research projects. We also advise you to consider the guidelines for preparing research proposals.
You must complete the University's postgraduate application form. Select the appropriate MPhil/PhD degree (Accounting and Finance, Business and management, Economics, or Marketing) as the programme of study.
The main deadline for applications is May 1, for starting the programme in September. Late applications may be considered on a space-available basis. If you are applying for funding, other specific deadlines may apply.
After each deadline, we will review the received applications and will shortlist candidates for detailed (phone) interview. Successful applicants will be informed of their admission to the programme shortly after the interview.
For information on available funding you can consult the University’s funding and finance page.
