Why did you choose to study this particular degree programme?
The EBIS programme at Newcastle University offers a unique and forward thinking approach to understanding how business is conducted via the Web and related technologies. I was looking for a highly focused and challenging programme to fill the niche between business and IT to complement my business experience as it’s a highly sought after skill set. Also, the focused one year intensive format appealed to me more than a two year American MBA both academically and financially.
What aspects of the programme do you enjoy the most?
I like how it was organized, blending theory to provide a foundation in the fall semester with the opportunity to put those skills into practice in the spring. It was also a very international programme with a variety of perspectives and collaboration opportunities such as the consultancy project developing strategies for a real business; both unique experiences that translate well in today’s global business environment.
Why did you choose to study at Newcastle University Business School?
I chose Newcastle University Business School due to its strong research focus and its willingness to bring practical elements into the curriculum – a major differentiator. The staff are renowned experts in their fields and you are challenged in every class. There is also a strong community of international students so if you are coming from abroad the school makes you feel at home.
What is it like to live in Newcastle?
Newcastle is a great city to live in! There is plenty to do for sport with Newcastle United’s St James Park literally next door to the Business School, culturally with museums and galleries and lots of history in the area. Plus, it’s easy to get around both the city and North East region, which is my favourite part of the UK. Newcastle is cheaper than most other parts of the UK, the Geordies are welcoming and the nightlife is second to none.
What are your future career ambitions?
Coming out of this programme, I feel prepared for a variety of e-business pursuits. My goal is to gain experience driving the web marketing strategy for a global organization here in the US and really innovate and contribute to the field. Eventually, I plan to start my own business either consulting e-business topics or develop a company based on the e-business plan I collaborated on as part of this course. The field is growing and there are boundless opportunities worldwide in e-business so I’d definitely recommend you take a look at this programme.
