Student Profile - Theodoulou Theodoulos

MSc E-Business and Information Systems

Theodoulou Theodoulos What did you do before you came to Newcastle?
Before coming to Newcastle University, I completed my studies and received a BSc in Computer Information Systems at Arizona State University, USA.

Why did you choose Newcastle University?
I opted to attend Newcastle University for its well accredited program, for its good reputation as a University, for Newcastle as the city and the opportunity to further diversify both my school of thought and cultural experience.

What did you like the most about your degree?
The small number of students in classrooms gave me the opportunity to have more attention by the professors and thus receiving a better education, all the courses were very interesting and enjoyable, the professors were able to effectively pass their knowledge across and finally, I had the opportunity to improve my presentation skills and work in groups that assisted me to also learn from my colleagues.

What do you do now? How's that relevant to your EBIS degree?
Now I work as a consultant for an SAP certified business Partner Company, which sells implements and supports SAP's Business One software solution. In order to excel in this position, it requires you to have both a solid understanding of business and the way organisations actually work, together with system development and problem solving skills. As the EBIS degree is a jointly programme of the Business and Computing Science School, it provided me with the necessary expertise and knowledge to compete for a position like this.

Were the knowledge and skills gained useful when looking for a job?
As I had not worked before in this sector of the market, the knowledge and skills gained from EBIS turned out to be very useful when I was applying for a job. The several projects done throughout the course and especially the consultancy project, the E-business project, the designing and implementing a database project and the analysis and re-engineering of Peacocks' Medical Group Ltd current business procedures project assisted me to compete in a diversity of job openings.

Would you recommend Newcastle (the city) to your friends?
I would recommend Newcastle to my friends as it is a city full of life. It is friendly, cultural and has a relatively lower cost of living when compared with other big UK cities. Moreover, it has plenty of bars, clubs, restaurants, parks and great shopping and leisure facilities. Also, its excellent transport services (buses & metro) can get you anywhere around the city fast and cheap.
