Postgraduate Programme

12 months full time

This programme will focus on the central importance of regulation and supervision in ensuring that confidence and stability return to and enhance the recovery of the world’s financial markets. The programme will evaluate and critically appraise issues such as:

  • The regulatory failures which may have contributed to the current financial crisis
  • The legal structures and pitfalls of running depositor protection schemes
  • Litigation and the management of crisis
  • Investor fraud and banking systems failures
  • Can the law help control the use of the financial system for money laundering and terrorist support? What responsibilities do the banks and financial institutions themselves have to counter this activity?

The programme is being run in partnership with the School of Law.

Who is the Course Suitable For?

In the light of the current financial turmoil regulation and regulatory failure have been in the spotlight as never before. The role and work of both financial regulators and compliance staff have received attention and scrutiny and these are two employment sectors where opportunities are set to increase worldwide.

This programme offers candidates an opportunity to broaden their industry knowledge, acquire technical skills in finance and acquire a high degree of specialism in financial regulation that they would not be able to get on a general Law Masters.

Programme Description

This is a one year full time modular programme and begins in mid September with an Induction Week, which all students must attend. The programme consists of compulsory modules (130 credits) and optional modules (50 credits).

Entry Requirements

An upper second class (2.1) first degree or above in any subject from a UK University (or equivalent from a non UK institution). Candidates must also hold a basic level of numeracy equivalent to UK GCSE Grade B in Matehmatics.

Applicants whose first language is not English will require a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent with no element below 6.0. The University can provide pre-sessional and foundation courses in English Language if required.
