Programme description

The Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship MSc explores the strategies and business processes that promote innovation and creativity in organisations, including the fundamentals of enterprise development and entrepreneurship. It produces graduates who aspire to strategic roles within the private and public sectors and who lead these organisations through innovative change.

More specifically, the programme provides opportunities for students to develop an advanced understanding of:
  • The social, political, economic and global business environmental contexts within which innovation and creativity are managed;
  • Current research on the enterprising management of innovation and creativity within specific industries or technology clusters;
  • The nature of developments in intellectual property rights and the management of those rights within a strategic framework; and
  • The leadership requirements for developing new enterprises and leading organisational transformation.

Who is the programme for?

This programme is aimed at students who intend to seek roles in organisations where innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship are defining features. This can include innovation consultancy, product development and management and business support. It is also aimed at those who want a postgraduate management education that will prepare them to start their own business.

Professional skill development

On a professional level, students will:

  • Develop strategic, creative, and critical-thinking skills
  • Act autonomously in planning and implementing research projects to a professional standard and
  • Learn and deploy professional communication skills - including written, oral and presentation skills.

Programme structure

The programme is modular in structure, comprising 180 credits, which are studied on a full-time (12 months) basis. All students will undertake the following compulsory modules:

  • NBS8033 Business enterprise for postgraduate students (20 credits)
  • NBS8111 International entrepreneurship (10 credits)
  • NBS8134 Business enterprise policy (10 credits)
  • NBS8138 Entrepreneurship in a social context (10 credits)
  • NBS8139 Entrepreneurship in an independent context (10 credits)
  • NBS8153 Creativity and innovation in organisations (10 credits)
  • NBS8213 Managing design and product development (10 credits)
  • NBS8214 Technology change and innovation policy (10 credits)
  • NBS8261 Entrepreneurial finance (10 credits)
  • NBS8062 Research methods (20 credits)
  • NBS8039 The ICE dissertation (60 credits)

Entry requirements

Candidates are required to hold a minimum upper second class first degree (2:1) or international equivalent.

Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5 or equivalent, with no less than 6.0 in any element. Pre-sessional courses in English language are provided by the University if required and successful completion of these may be a condition of entry.
