Research at Newcastle University Business School

Shard Top

At Newcastle University Business School, itself part of a research-intensive University, we have a thriving research community with links extending across the world. Our research activity takes many different forms, both subject-specific and interdisciplinary.

Research is of key importance to all our activities within the School :

  • it is a vital part of the contribution made by members of the School to a better understanding of the issues facing managers, professionals and policy-makers
  • it is central to how the School can engage directly with organisations and policy-makers at regional, national and international levels
  • it provides the foundation for teaching at all levels, ensuring that students are exposed to knowledge and approaches that reflect latest thinking and are grounded in practice

Since the Business School was formed, we have been focused on conducting and disseminating research of the highest international standard, which contributes to and influences policy and practice. Through engagement with partners both inside and outside the University, we have also been actively promoting interdisciplinary research.

Staff are grouped into seven main subject areas (Accounting and Finance, Economics, HRM Work and Employment, Innovation and Enterprise, Marketing, Operations Management, and Strategy Organisations and Society), and most staff belong to one or more of our key research groups and centres.

We also have growing doctoral programmes, which attracts applicants from all around the world.
