Research Interests
For over two decades Feng’s research has centraly focused on using information and communications technologies (ICTs) to facilitate innovations in the strategies, business models, organisational designs and inter-organisational relations across different sectors and domains. He has worked closely with leading organisations in banking, telecommunications, manufacturing, retailing, the creative industries and the public sectors through Research, Consultancy and Executive Development Programmes.
Currently, he is exploring 'emerging business models in creative industries', and 'instant trust in online transaction' through two Research Councils funded projects. He and colleagues have just won a £12 million major funding for 5 years from the RCUK to establish a digital economy hub at Newcastle. Feng will lead the Business Theme within the hub.

Other Expertise
Another area of Feng’s research and consultancy is Foreign Investment and Trade in China, working with several large consulting companies on strategic issues in this area. He was the Editor of the business magazine - 'Europe in China' - published by Omega Publishing in London.

Postgraduate Supervision
Since 2002, six of his PhD/DBAs have successfully completed their doctoral degrees. Currently, 10 doctoral researchers are under his supervision. All of them are working on different aspects of the Internet and E-Business, exploring emerging strategies, business models and organisational innovations across different sectors and domains. Feng has also been PhD/DBA external examiners at Durham, Leeds, Cardiff, Strathclyde, Brunel, Henley and Glasgow Caledonian etc.
Esteem Indicators
Feng was a Council Member of the British Academy of Management, and since 2003 he has been the Chair of the BAM E-Business and E-Government Special Interest Group (SIG), and has served as the Track Chair for E-Business and E-Government at BAM annual conferences. His work on Internet banking and on telecom value chains and new pricing models were extensively reported by various online and offline media (e.g. Financial Times, Daily Telegraph, Sky News and the BBC).
Feng has served as the Guest Editor and is on the Editorial Boards of several journals, including International Journal of Information Technology and Management, Journal of E-Commerce in Organisations, E-Commerce Research and Applications, Electronic Journal of E-Government, Journal of Management Systems, Networks and Communications, and Telecommunications policy.
