Introduction

I am Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance.

I joined the University in December 2001 to set up the BA (Hons) Business Accounting and Finance which is run in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers and the ICAEW. I was Degree Programme Director from its launch in 2002 until December 2007.

My teaching is in Accounting and Finance - particularly Business Finance and Financial Management but also Accounting and Auditing.

My research interests are mainly in the area of teaching and learning. I am working on a DBA on the factors influencing the student experience.

Background

I graduated from Birmingham University and then trained as a Chartered Accountant in the London office of Coopers and Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers). Most of my clients were financial services organisations and I also worked with various financial regulators. After qualifying I worked for the firm's Insolvency Practice.

I then worked in business, firstly as a Financial Analyst for the Prudential and then as Financial Controller of the Insurance Broking Division of Provident Financial. I later moved into a Business Development role with Provident Financial. Part of the Business Development role involved finding and opening new branch locations, including training new staff. This re-kindled my interest in education and led me to a lecturing position at Northumbria University.

I set up a degree in Financial Services at Northumbria and this experience prompted me to move to Newcastle University to set up the Business Accounting and Finance degree which we run in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers and the ICAEW.
