Student internships

Gain practical and paid work experience over the summer……

Are you a highly motivated undergraduate student at the Business School?  Are you keen to gain work experience and develop your personal and professional skills?

Each year we recuit enthusiastic and self-motivated students to work on specific projects over the summer months.  Successful candidates have their own project to manage whilst undertaking paid work experience.  The internships are:

  1. an opportunity to enhance your CV, and to develop your organisational, research, report writing, and presentation skills.
  2. full time (37 hours per week) and paid at £7.50 per hour.
  3. normally eight weeks in duration during the summer vacation (exact start and finish dates depend on the project).
  4. open to all current Newcastle University Business School undergraduate students (Stages 1, 2 and 3).  Students must have successfully passed Stage 1 of their programme.

Applications for 2013 internships have now closed

James Williams, BA Marketing and Management

"Hi my name is James and I am about to start my fourth year studying Marketing and Management. Most recently I have completed my placement year in Manchester with an insurance company, working primarily in the marketing department. During my internship I will be helping the Student Experience Marketing Coordinator organise the Business School's own Career Development Week held in October. I would strongly recommend anybody to work as an intern at the Business School, it is a great atmosphere, you get a regular supply of homemade cake and apparently have no say in signing up for the staff football team on your first day!"

Vanessa Ruano Hernandez, BSc Marketing

"Hi everyone, I'm Vanessa and I am one of the three summer interns. I have just finished my second year of BSc Hons Marketing which so far I have thoroughly enjoyed. I will be working closely with Dr Colin Ashurst on a series of Innovation projects and of course will be available to assist the wider team in all that I can. Please feel free to approach me :) (If you struggle to understand my accent, please excuse me, its a mixture between that of a South Londoner and Spanish). See you around!"

Sarah Tucker, BSc Economics

"I've just completed a BSc in Economics and I'm currently taking part in the Business School summer internship programme, working with the Alumni Relations team. After carrying out research into the various benefits and services that other top business schools offer their alumni, I will be helping form packages for our own alumni and contributing to the redesigning of the new web page."
