Why did you choose Newcastle?

The Flying Start programme was obviously the main reason as to why I chose Newcastle, as it provides such a fantastic opportunity with the placement with PwC, however there are so many added benefits. The city itself is so friendly and vibrant with a great student atmosphere – especially the night life!

Did the Open Day help?

The Open Day helped a lot as it gives you lots of information about the course, as well as a chance to actually explore the city and campus, and it helps you feel more relaxed about the upcoming assessment as you can talk to staff and student reps about any worries or queries you may have.  Also, it will help you determine as to whether or not you can see yourself being happy living as a student in Newcastle.

Are you enjoying the degree?

The thing I love about this degree is the close knit community in not only your year, but between the students as a whole. Obviously the transition from college to university is a bit daunting at first, and the work load may seem heavy – however if you plan your time efficiently you can soon become on top of it all and still have plenty of time for recreational activities.

Hints and tips for the Open Day and Assessment Centre

  • Prepare yourself by doing research before your interview as this will prove your interest in the course and will help you a lot during the interview.
  • It’s a great opportunity to either ask current students questions about the course, university or general life in Newcastle.
  • Relax! Everyone’s in the same boat as you therefore will be equally as nervous – talk to the others in your discussion group as not only will this make you feel at ease, it’s good preparation for the group assessment.
