I at first wanted to study at Newcastle because of the opportunity to forward my future rapidly towards becoming a charted accountant whilst also enjoying the university experience. I always wanted to do a work placement because of the experience it would give; this course offers paid work placements spread out over three years with PwC, it is focused on gaining that experience but also progressing and gaining confidence with each placement undertaken. I then looked at other aspects that would affect my choice of university, for example the city itself. I could not find fault with such a beautiful and busy city.
It is really exciting. There are new challenges everyday whether it is an assessment or trying to understand a new concept in a module. The course community makes everything more enjoyable. It gives me opportunities to ask for help when I need it, and we all support each other. This is useful as it builds on our interdependence which is crucial for university, and later on in the working world.
The best way to prepare would be doing a mock interview with a teacher or someone you know so that you are more comfortable when it comes to the real thing. Also don’t be afraid to ask questions, it is very important that you get as much out of the day as possible so that you can make an informed decision about the university and the course as a whole. Show off what you know, as that is what they are looking for.
