Why you chose Newcastle?
The main reason that I chose Newcastle was the course. I knew I wanted an accounting degree with exemptions from accounting exams and with a placement, but the help that you get in deciding cities, and of course the guaranteed paid placements helped sway my decision! I was a bit nervous about the distance, but I got here, and found I had nothing to worry about. It’s a great city with loads to do and I made lots of friends straight away. Now I can’t imagine going to university anywhere else!
How you have found the course so far?
Stage 1 offers a great introduction to a range of different subjects and helps give a good grounding in several business disciplines. In stage 1, we were in big lecture theatres with a mix of courses, which helped me realise that Uni is completely different to college. There were also had lots of seminars, which were useful for helping keep on track of work throughout the year!
This year is more challenging and we’re quickly building on material covered in stage 1 as well as studying new modules like Taxation. The work’s getting harder, although I know the benefits will pay off in the end!
Are you looking forward to the work placements?
I am really excited about starting my placement in Birmingham in January. This will provide the opportunity to experience a new city and sample working life! As for my future career plans, I know that I definitely want to complete the final 3 Professional exams when I graduate and am looking forward to qualifying as a Chartered Accountant hopefully within a year of leaving university!
