What attracted you to the Business Accounting and Finance degree?

I knew I wanted to do accountancy at University and I thought the BAF programme offered a fantastic opportunity to link theory with practical work through placement with PricewaterhouseCoopers. The fact that you get to go on placement for four months in years two, three and four enables you to put into practice what you have learnt at University.

How have you found the degree so far?

The BAF programme is challenging yet rewarding. The placement is fantastic – I got such a variety of work which was great. The integrated nature of the placements means that you can apply what you learn in lectures into the real world when working for real clients. The practical experience gained on placement also helps to consolidate the material you cover in classes.

All the BAF lecturers and staff are so friendly and helpful. They are always happy to explain things again if you haven’t understood them and there is always someone to turn to for extra support. There is a real classroom feel to the way BAF is taught which I find very reassuring.

What is the social side of the degree like?

The social side of BAF is really good as well. All the years club together to organise nights out and the highlight of the year has to be the BAF ball!

Newcastle is a relatively small city which is what attracted me to it. Everyone is so friendly and with the University being in the city you don’t feel isolated which I really like.

Are you looking forward to this year?

Looking to the future, I would like to go on and work for PricewaterhouseCoopers. I thoroughly enjoyed my first placement and I am looking forward to my second and third!
