Stage 3
Home City: Newcastle
Placement Location: Newcastle!
There are a few reasons why I chose to stay in Newcastle. The first is that it is an amazing city with lots of places to go and things to do, the area and university itself is very culturally diverse and the locals are second to none! It is a really friendly place to live. The second reason is the course itself. When I found out there was a course supported by PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP I was immediately interested and, having researched it further, knew it was definitely the right one for me.
I’m now in my third year on the course and so have been able to experience being a student and being on placement and so far I love it. The “classroom” style of teaching really helps when learning the theory and it is so easy to get help when there are areas you struggle with.
Placements really give an insight into what working in the Accounting industry will be like and give an indication of what areas I might like to work in after university.
In the first week of uni you are split into development teams which consist of about 5 students. This is a random selection of people that you will have to work with for group projects throughout the course, they also act as support as you become great friends and can ask for help or advice when needed.
You are also assigned personal tutors which are lecturers on the course. They are there to help you progress on the course and to make sure you’re happy and achieving what you are capable of. There are always there to help you if you have any sort of course related, university or personal problem. All the lecturers are always more than happy to drop what they are doing to help you progress with your studies. They are really quick in resolving any difficulties you have and offer personal tutoring if there is an area you are still struggling in.
