Stage 3
Home City: Nottingam
Placement Location: East Midlands
I think a big motivator for my choice to study at Newcastle was the vivacious reputation of the city; with so much going on in and around Newcastle, it seemed like an excellent student city, and it hasn't disappointed. The university's Russell Group status gave assurances that teaching would be to a high standard, and the campus tour I attended showed how friendly both students and staff are. That, coupled with good transport around the city and to other parts of the country made Newcastle my top choice.
It was the admissions process, however, which made me realise just how unique a chance BAF was, and once I fully understood the structure of the course and how different this route into accountancy was in comparison with any other, it really was an opportunity I could not miss.
For me, BAF so far has been a very rewarding experience. It has allowed me to make new, close friends in both a university and a working environment, and has helped my confidence in communication with others, especially in a formal domain. It has challenged me academically, and above all else has interested me in the world of finance in a way which I don't think a traditional classroom cased university degree would have.
Course socials are frequent, and result in a more close-knit group which spans across year groups. The best part of BAF is the small group size and unique teaching style, which allows for a much more interactive lecture and better overall learning by the group, making the course stand out from others.
The placements have been excellent experiences; PwC staff have been welcoming, and the work involved has both allowed me to see how the knowledge I have learnt during lectures can be applied and also given me an insight into the career path in general.
Placements afforded me the practice required to turn the complexities of lectures into second nature, and support was on hand from both the university and PwC. Most of all, however, placements have confirmed that without doubt, I see my future career in finance.
