What attracted you to the Business Accounting and Finance degree?

When I first heard about the course it stood out from others straight away.  The way stages 2, 2 and 4 are structured so that you spend time at both university and on placement really appealed to me.  The fact that the placements are paid is a welcome bonus!

For the first year of university I lived at home and wasn’t expecting to make as many friends as I have, but as the course is made up of around 50 people it is much easier to get to know people and I am even living with 5 other girls from the course for my second year.

What kind of support is available to help you in stage 1?

From the very first day of university you are well looked after. Students are arranged into groups of 4 or 5 called ‘development teams’ who you work with on various assignments throughout the year. This is a good opportunity to work with people you wouldn’t usually work with, to help support each other’s weaknesses and to even ask for help if you get stuck on a certain topic.

Another great place to seek help is in seminars and workshops. Seminars tend to be groups of 15-20 students so you feel comfortable asking for help if you don’t understand a topic. You can also make an appointment to see your personal tutor, anytime, about anything, university work or even home life. This really helps the settling in process.

Having lived here all my life, I have found Newcastle a great place to go to University. The nightlife is great and there are plenty of clubs and societies to keep you amused! Throughout the year there have been several degree nights out, including the infamous BAF ball and these social events help you to make friends with students from all stages.

Are you looking forward to your first placement?

For my placement, I chose to go to London as it is such a dynamic city and is also financial capital of the UK.  I’ll be working on PwC’s London Middle Tier clients. I’m really looking forward to my placement and hope to eventually work in London or Newcastle for PwC when I graduate.
