Culture and Heritage
Programme outline
Begin to understand the diverse nature of culture and heritage with some of the University's most experienced tutors. Are you fascinated by:
- museums,
- art and art galleries,
- music,
- archaeological and heritage sites,
- national parks,
- nature reserves,
- or even intangible heritage?
This programme will not only connect you to the exciting history, heritage and culture of the north east of England, but will also examine global heritage issues. The course leaders will help you to explore the practical and theoretical issues that relate to culture and heritage, and ensure you experience a wide range of interesting local and regional venues in the company of heritage professionals.
This course will include:
- A wide variety of keynote lectures by experts in the fields of heritage, art and music
- Daily workshops that involve talks, group discussions and project work
- Time to visit nearby heritage sites and cultural venues
- Talks from distinguished local professionals from the world of heritage, art and music
- Trips to key heritage sites including Hadrian's Wall
- Visit key cultural sites in Newcastle including music at the Sage and contemporary art at the BALTIC
- Music from students studying at the International Centre for Music Studies
Students will be given advance notice of all pre-programme reading material.
Depending on individual credit transfer needs, students will be assessed by a mix of on-going and final stage assessment. At the end of the summer school students will be awarded a certificate stating the programme studied and their grade.
