Developing Management Skills
Programme outline
Help to prepare yourself for the world of work with our Developing Management Skills programme. During the course you will cover all the essentials of effective leadership and management. The course is based on the most up to date research as well as the most up to date teaching techniques from the School of Education, Communication and Language Sciences.
The course covers all the basics that are needed for participants to be able to hit the ground running in any new or current jobs. Not only will it help with their leadership skills but the modules on team working will help them to become much more effective team players.
During the course participants will also be looking at their own emotional intelligence. By reflecting on themselves, they will be able to understand how they can affect their interactions with others to ensure that they become highly successful individuals and team players.
This course will include
- Developing Self Awareness (topics include: Emotional intelligence, Dealing with different points of view, dealing with individual and collective relationships)
- Communicating Clearly (topics include: Importance of clear communication, Communication styles, Prepare, present and persuade)
- Getting the work done (topics include: Prioritising work, Effective delegation, Effective project management)
- Change in the world of work (topics include: leading change, obstacles to change, goal setting)
- People and performance (topics include: motivating others, coaching and mentoring, recognising underperformance)
- High performance teams (topics include: understanding team development, team roles, goal setting)
Preparation and assessment
Students will be given advance notice of all pre-programme reading material.
Depending on individual credit transfer needs (credit is subject to full University approval), students will be assessed by a mix of on-going and final stage assessment. At the end of the summer school students will be awarded a certificate stating the programme studied and their grade.
