The introductory lecture will be on a general topic of relevance and interest to all summer school participants. The 'Teaching block' is specific to the summer school programme the student has chosen. The self-directed study in the afternoons gives you the opportunity to work independently on your summer school course material.

To get an idea of how your week will be organised have a look at some examples of timetables from last year's programme:

In the evenings you can take part in organized social events or take time out to explore the city of Newcastle and its restaurants, bars, cafes and cinemas.

Over the course of the three weeks there will be programme-specific field trips depending on the subject being studied. For example, Doing Business in Europe students visited companies; R&R Ice Cream, Alcan Smelting and Arriva.

We also organise three field trips for all students, irrespective of programme to go on. This is to make sure all students get to experience the history and culture of the North East. All students visit Holy Island, two Northumberland Castles as well as the world heritage site, Hadrian’s Wall.
