Research Degrees

Your application for a research degree must include an outline of up to 600 words giving details of your research proposal. This should set out the main issues that you would like to research and the general approach or approaches you wish to take e.g. doctrinal analysis, socio-legal, theoretical, comparative, historical.

This is to give us an idea of whether we can provide supervision and if the topic is potentially suitable for PhD, M.Phil or LLM. Our application pack will give some guidance as to the standard required for PhD. Of course, this outline will not commit you – the scope and direction of your topic will almost certainly change as your work evolves.

When making a decision on your application we will consider your academic background - normally you should have a good honours degree in a relevant subject, for example, law, politics or economics. In addition, we take into account your work experience, research proposal (where appropriate) and your references.
