Commercial Opportunities and Legal Issues in Stem Cells Conference

The North East England Stem Cell Institute (NESCI) and Newcastle Law School held a one-day conference on Commercial Opportunities & Legal Issues in Stem Cells on 10th May 2007 in the Newcastle University Research Beehive.

With the international growth in stem cell science legal practitioners will be increasingly required to provide advice to clients on carrying out research, clinical trials, protecting IP and commercialization opportunities in stem cell science.

The Conference provided:

  • an overview of stem cell law and regulation
  • the opportunity to explore the commercial opportunities in stem cells
  • a chance to hear from target client groups on current commercial activity
  • an international perspective: contrast and evaluate the patenting of stem cells in the UK, Europe and USA
  • the chance to examine stem cell based products – understand the legal landscape
