My current role is as Dean of Research, Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia. I was appointed to this post earlier in 2015 to lead the Research agenda for Newcastle University’s satellite campus in Malaysia. My research interests include clinical research in relation to head and neck cancer, public health epidemiology and medical education research.

From January to April 2016, I was also asked to  Act as Dean of Clinical Affairs with responsibility for Stage 3-5 teaching, examinations, hospital placements until the current Dean could commence working in this post.

I graduated from Dental School at Newcastle University in 1999 having completed a year of intercalated study during my BDS in 1996.  I completed Vocational Dental Practitioner training in Norfolk, Senior House Officer posts Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery  at South Manchester University Hospitals Trust and then returned to Newcastle to complete the accelerated MBBS programme. On completing MBBS in 2004, I returned to South Manchester Hospitals to undertake house officer training in cardiology, coronary carem endocrinology and urology. On completion of this year, I went to Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Trust to complete Senior House Officer training in ENT, Plastic Surgery and Neurosurgery at the Freeman, RVI and General Hospital. I then undertook a locum registrar post in oral and maxillofacial surgery at  James Cook University Hospital and subsequently on completion of MRCS joined the Northern Region Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Specialty training rotation rotating through Newcastle Hospitals, James Cook Hospital, Sunderland Royal Hospital and Cumberland Infirmary.

In 2008-9, I was awarded a reserach fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons (Eng) for my PhD on oral potentially malignant disorders. I completed my Specialty Training, FRCS and PhD then moved to Newcastle University Malaysia in 2014.
