Biomedical Sciences Entry Requirements

These entry requirements are specific to the NUMed Biomedical Sciences BSc Honours programme. They are in addition to the general entry requirements.

Examinations and grades

Students who have completed SPM, O-Level, or equivalent programmes must first complete a recognised pre-university qualification as a basic requirement for entry to an undergraduate degree at NUMed Malaysia.

Whatever pre-university qualifications you offer, they should include the science subjects Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics at a level equivalent to A-Levels, International Baccalaureate Diploma or STPM.

A-Levels

Normally 12 points ie BBB at A2 level (A=5; B=4; C=3; D=2; E=1) in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

We do not accept General Studies or Critical Thinking as A2 level entry qualifications.

International Baccalaureate Diploma

Normally a minimum of 30 points including the additional points available for the Theory of Knowledge / Extended Essay. No core subjects should be graded less than grade 5.

STPM

Normally BBB in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

Malaysian Matriculation (MATRICS)

CGPA = 3.50 or better, including the required science subjects of in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

Australian Year 12 (ATAR)

Based on an ATAR score of 90 as reflected in the transcript, including the required science subjects of in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

Foundation programmes

NUMed Foundation Certificate in Biological and Biomedical Science a minimum CGPA for 3.00.

Monash University Foundation Year score of 300 or above, where both Biology and Chemistry must be 80%.

Other foundations should be at least 12 months duration and will be considered on a case-by-case basis, with a minimum CGPA for 3.00.

All India Senior School Certificate

80%, based on average of best four academic subjects, including the required science subjects of in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

Indian School Certificate

80%, based on average of best four academic subjects, including the required science subjects of in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

Indonesian UNIPREP/UNSW

CGPA of 8 to 8.5 as shown on the transcript, including the required science subjects of in Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

Singapore-Cambridge GCE Advanced Level

Minimum of 3Bs at H2 level, or H3 level merit. Subjects should include Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

Sri Lanka A level

12 points (3Bs). We take the 3 highest grades offered, and these must include Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics.

UEC (Malaysian independent Chinese secondary schools unified examination)

A maximum score of between 2 and 3 based on the average of the best five subjects, which should include Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics (A1=1; A2=2; B3=3; B4=4; B5=5; B6=6; C7=7; C8=8). No core subjects should be graded less than B4.

Other qualifications

The following will also be considered depending upon the grade(s) achieved:

  • a polytechnic or university diploma
  • Ontario Grade 12

English requirements

You must be proficient in both spoken and written English. You can demonstrate this through the IELTS test, or equivalent (eg TOEFL, Pearson Test of Academic English).

An IELTS minimum overall score of 6.5 with no individual band less than 6 must be achieved. We also accept students with MUET band 3 or above.

Transfers

Students on BSc (Honours) Biomedical Sciences programme may apply for transfer into the MB BS degree programme offered by NUMed Malaysia at the end of the first year of study. This is a competitive scheme with a limited number of places and students are selected on the basis of academic performance in the first year, a personal statement and interview.
