general awards

TM Teoh Prize, Stages 1 - 4

This is awarded to the top performing MB BS student in each Stage. The prize is awarded on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners to the undergraduate who shall obtain the highest marks.

The award for this is RM250 and is taken from a fund donated to Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia by TM Teoh. Awards may be split if more than one student meets the top criteria.

TM Teoh Prize, Stage 5

This is awarded to the top performing MB BS student in Finals in NUMed Malaysia. The prize is awarded on the recommendation of the Board of Examiners to the undergraduate who shall obtain the highest marks at the Stage 5 Examination in any one academic year.

The criteria for the award are:

  • candidates must be sitting Stage 5 for the first time and have no recorded ‘U’ grades in the professionalism domain in the final year
  • candidates must have achieved merit for all assessment episodes in the final year (or have recorded the highest number of individual merit grades within the year, with priority given to the clinical examination/skills domain)

In the event of these criteria resulting in more than one candidate or none, the percentage mark achieved in the written papers will be used to rank candidates. Should these still not separate candidates, academic rating will be the final determinant.

The award for this is RM500 and is taken from a fund donated to Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia by TM Teoh. Awards may be split if more than one student meets the top criteria.
