Green and Gold Open Access

You can make your publications open access via two routes, typically referred to as Green or Gold open access.

Green Open Access

  • Authors archive publications in their institutional repository (Newcastle University ePrints) or a subject repository.
  • The version archived is usually the final author version as accepted for publication.
  • No additional charges are payable.
  • Access may be subject to a publisher embargo period.

To make your publications green open access, upload your accepted manuscript to MyImpact and we will do the rest.

Gold Open Access

  • The final publisher version is open access via the journal website without any embargo period.
  • The publication has a licence intended to maximise reuse, such as CC-BY.
  • An additional APC may be charged by the publisher.

If your research is funded by the RCUK or a COAF partner, we may be able to pay the APCs for you.
