About Us | History | People

Stories allow people to safely step inside the world of others. When performed live they are a powerful way of exploring complex and contentious matters.

The overall aim of our work is to allow audiences to have this ‘borrowed experience,’ to find themselves, through the power of theatre and the empathy it engenders, encountering health situations in a way in which they may not have done before.

The result is that discussion and debate are stimulated and all-important new perspectives emerge and are developed.

Operating Theatre currently has 20 plays in its  repertoire. Themes include alcoholism, teenage pregnancy, medical error, depression, anorexia, obesity, unwillingness to take exercise and the person vs state in the context of health choices.

All the plays are between 20 and 25 minutes and can be delivered  in any setting, small or large. They can be used in a ‘ stand alone’ way, or with one of our original, nationally-acclaimed workshops which uses the actors, remaining in character, to further stimulate discussion.
