The video was shot by the British Association for the Advancement of Science during its Community X-Change day in Liverpool in June 2008
As part of the day, Operating Theatre was asked by the British Association for two original plays on scientific themes to generate discussion. The subjects chosen were GM crops and animal testing.
The animal testing play, Further Adventures in Wonderland, which takes the White Rabbit and the Dormouse from Alice in Wonderland and pits them against a scientific Mad Hatter was performed in the morning. This was followed in the afternoon by Transgenia, in which a local MP is confronted by an irate farmer who has just discovered there is to be a GM crops trial next to his farm.
Both plays did what was required, generating a great deal of discussion ( and some hilarity in the case of Further Adventures ) as can be seen by the video which includes both excerpts from the play and the hot-seating by the actors afterwards. Further details of the plays can be found in the play list.
