Assessment: General

Delegates will normally be awarded a certificate of attendance for each module taken.

For all delegates registered for the MSc or Diploma, and for those delegates registered under IGDS Modules who wish to be assessed, each module will have two stages of formal assessment: an assignment and an examination.

A written report on the assignment will normally be required to be submitted within about 2 months of the start of the module.

Extensions to the deadline for assignments may be requested by means of a self-certification pro-forma to be submitted electronically. All reasonable requests for extensions are normally approved.

It is the delegates' responsibility to use the pro-forma to apply for extensions as appropriate, and to ensure that there is a contiguous record of extensions.

The examination will be written and of 2-hours duration. It will normally be held about 2.5 months after the start of the module, ie approx 2 weeks after submission of the assignment.

Examinations will always be held at Newcastle University. Alternatively, to save the cost and time of travelling to Newcastle to take a single exam, arrangements can be made for delegates to take their exams at various other approved local centres.

The results of all assessments are given on the 16 point grade scale.
