The MSc in Process Automation is a part-time course which, by design, is (at least)equivalent to a conventional one-year full-time taught MSc degree. The Diploma is a subset of the MSc degree. Both the MSc and Diploma have full academic approval of the University.
The MSc in Process Automation is based upon 1800 hours of study
and is deemed to be worth 180 credits. It consists of approximately:
| Lectures/tutorials |
270 hrs |
| Practical work |
50 hrs |
| Assignments |
320 hrs |
| Project work |
480 hrs |
| Private study |
680 hrs |
Total |
1800 hrs |
The MSc degree requires completion of 8 taught modules and an industrial project.
There are some 320 hours of tuition (lectures, tutorials
and practical work) to be distributed amongst the 8 modules.
This yields an average of 40 hours of tuition per module
(one week of intensive tuition) together with an assignment equivalent
to a further 40 hours per module. In addition to this there are
some 70 hours of private study per module.
The industrial project is intended to take 480 hours (approx
3 months effort) done in works time together with a further
120 hours
of private study.
The expectation is that delegates will typically
take 2-3 modules per year completing the module requirements in
3-4 years. Allowing
an extra 1-2 years (lapsed time) for the industrial project
means that the MSc degree will take some 4-5 years. Completion
must
normally be within 5 years of registration.
