Order
of Modules
The bubble
diagram is a good representation of the structure of
the IGDS.
The modules of a foundation nature are those across the top of the diagram. They have no prerequisites as such, other than the expectation of an appropriate first degree or equivalent.
The modules on the left hand side (LHS) of the diagram are technology orientated with an emphasis on practice. The order indicated is desirable but not essential.
The modules on the right hand side (RHS) of the diagram are more theoretical with an emphasis on techniques. It is important that these are done in the correct order unless delegates happen to be familiar with the content of prior modules.
Many delegates choose to concentrate on modules on one side of the IGDS or the other, according to their aptitudes and interests.
Note that the module on the Management of Automation Projects is entirely generic and can be done at any time.
The Industrial Project at the bottom of the diagram is the culmination of the IGDS. Delegates typically start thinking about and planning for their project when they have done five or six modules. There is no requirement to have completed all eight modules before starting on the project.
For further information about pre-requisites, see the module specifications under the Modules menu.
