Campus and City Life

There's much more to campus life than getting a degree. In term time the campus is bustling with activity: the many open spaces and meeting points create a friendly and enjoyable atmosphere.

Students' Union

Newcastle was rated the joint best university for social life in the 2009 Times Higher Education Supplement survey of student experience. The four-storey Students’ Union Building is the main social destination for students at the University.

Sport

Newcastle is one of the top universities in the UK for competitive sport. Our first-class sports facilities include a state-of-the-art fitness centre and 45 acres of sports pitches. As well as the sports clubs organised by the Union, there is an intramural sports league where students can form their own teams and complete in weekly recreational leagues.

City Life

Voted Britain's best university city*, Newcastle is a vibrant, cultural city with a low cost of living and an enviable proximity to both coastline and countryside.

With a fantastic range of restaurants, live entertainment, and festivals and events throughout the year, there is always something to do in Newcastle.

There are plenty of ways to spend a great night out in Newcastle, with hundreds of bars, clubs and restaurants, great music venues and a thriving theatre scene and as Newcastle is a very compact city, it has safe and accessible public transport.

One thing is for sure, Newcastle is an exciting place to be a student and a great weekend break for visiting parents!
