Student Shadowing

Monday 5 - Thursday 15 March 2012

The Year 12/first-year college Student Shadowing event aims to provide students interested in studying at Newcastle University the opportunity to shadow undergraduate students in a subject area of their choice. During the event you will attend a lecture, tutorial or practical session and you may also have the chance to visit the University Sports Centre and visit University accommodation. You will receive information on student finance and be taken on a tour of the University campus. Throughout the day, you will be able to talk to current students to find out what university is really like.

Intended Learner Outcomes

Through taking part in Newcastle University Student Shadowing students should be able to:

  • recognise links between their own curriculum and study at a higher level
  • demonstrate an understanding of the vocabulary, style, and context of learning in an HE setting
  • recognise similarities and differences between learning in school and higher education
  • demonstrate a degree of confidence about their potential to succeed at the higher level of study
  • begin to understand the types of attitudes, skills and abilities that are required for success in higher level study
