  • Bioethics Today - a web resource developed by the Universitites of Sheffield, Lancaster and Oxford, funded by the Wellcome Trust, which brings together ethical, medical, legal, social science and lay perspectives of biomedical research and biotechnology.
  • Centre for Life - website gives details of our colleagues within the Life Science complex.

  • ESRC - The Economic and Social Research Council is an independent organisation which funds research and training into social and economic issues.
  • ESRC Genomics Network - a major investment by the Economic and Social Research Council, dedicated to examining the development and use of the science and technologies of genomics.
  • Genefaith - a faith perspective on genetic and reproductive science.
  • Genetic Interest Group - the GIG is a national alliance of patient organizations with a membership of over 130 charities which support children, families and individuals affected by genetic disorders.
  • Genewatch - an independent research group working on scientific, social and ethical aspects of genetics. Excellent site on both human genetics and genetically modified organisms, including searchable databases.
  • GM Watch - a pressure group whose aim is to show how hype, propaganda and spin are used to promote GM technology.
  • Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority - HEFA is a non-departmental Government body that regulates and inspects all UK clinics providing IVF, donor insemination or the storage of eggs, sperm or embryos. The HFEA also licenses and monitors all human embryo research being conducted in the UK.
  • The Human Genetics Commission - this independent advisory body was established to advise the UK Government on developments in human genetics, particularly the ethical and social implications.

  • Nuffield Council on Bioethics is a UK body that examines ethical issues raised by new developments in biology and medicine. Established by the Nuffield Foundation in 1991, the Council is an independent body, funded jointly by the Foundation, the UK Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust.
