Andrew's research interests focus on the rise of China and the effect it will have on the West, with particular emphasis upon the United States.
"I use IR theories to understand and explain the impact China is having on the international order. Specifically, I employ a theoretically eclectic approach involving realist and constructivist methods. The utility of such research lies in the idea that the motives and intentions of non-status-quo and non-Western powers can be better understood by a Western mind-set if seen through a realist-constructivist lens. If non-Western and non-status-quo powers (such as China) can be understood in such a manner, we may be able to mitigate any possible future conflict between these powers and the West. As well, I believe that the realist constructivist framework will allow us to better understand the changing nature of conflict itself."
Andrew received his BA in Film Studies and Political Studies from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario in 2004. He then received an MA in Political Science (International Relations) from Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario in 2007.
