Stamatios Karavolos

Stamatios Karavolos

Project summary

Stamatios is examining the psychosocial experiences of men diagnosed with infertility. His project aims to explore the experiences of men attending the male infertility clinic at Newcastle Fertility Centre. It investigates the psychosocial impact of the diagnosis of azoospermia (lack of sperm in the semen) on these men.

A better understanding of men’s psychosocial issues and coping strategies following the diagnosis of their infertility, whether treatable or not, will enable clinics to address these issues and optimise the quality of care they provide to infertile couples.

The research forms part of his MD at Newcastle University, supervised by Kevin McEleny, Richard Quinton and Erica Haimes. Dr Karavolos began his study in June 2013.
