Tom Shakespeare will assert that while there are at least one billion people with disabilities in the world, their rights and needs are often ignored in development efforts such as the Millennium Development Goals. Tom, a former Newcastle academic now working for the World Health Organisation in Geneva, will report on global efforts to remove barriers and promote quality of life for disabled people and their families.
