This project is about your ideas and experiences. Anyone who identifies as LGBT and has an opinion about the "gay gene debate" can take part. There'll be plenty of fun, support and encouragement given, so don't worry if you've never done anything like this before. It's your ideas that are important and you’ll also find that it’s interesting to hear the thoughts and feelings of other LGBT people.
1) Starter sheet
2) Issues and questions
3) For and against
4) Notes for
facilitators
If you’re an individual who’s interested, download the three worksheets and read them in this order: 1) the starter sheet will introduce you to certain key facts (and untruths) about the whole gay gene debate 2) issues and questions explores just that and finally 3) the for and against worksheet outlines the two main sides to the debate
If you’re a LGBT group facilitator then do the above but first, read the notes for facilitators. You’ll be able to chair a debate/discussion with your group and expose your group members to the various facets of the debate.
There’s no “right or wrong” in this project, there’s only LGBT ideas and stories that will inform the final artwork/installation. Just ask yourself this: were you born LGBT, or did you choose your sexuality and what would it mean to you if a “gay gene” were to be found?
