Philosophical Studies

About

About Us

An interdisciplinary group of researchers promoting the study of knowledge-human interfaces.

Head Statue in the Student Forum

Philosophical studies at Newcastle comprises experienced lecturers, researchers and supervisors.

We have diverse research interests that interrogate the relationship between conceptual frameworks and:

  • the arts and culture
  • the environment
  • ethics
  • metaphysics
  • religion
  • science and society

We organise and administer academic programmes.

We raise funding through seminars, research papers and meetings, degree programmes and links with other institutions.

Study with us

We run BA and MPhil/PhD degree programmes in philosophy.

A unique aspect of the BA in Philosophy is the context-driven project students undertake.

Philosophy has consistently received a rating of more than 92% in student satisfaction with teaching for more than 10 years in a row.

Current students

We have a range of resources for our current students section.

BPA/SWIP good practice guidelines

The unit is committed to following the British Philosophical Association (BPA) and Society for Women in Philosophy (SWIP) good practice guidelines.

The guidelines deal with gender bias, conference and seminars, sexual harassment, care givers and staff-student relationships.
