Aquaculture is the commercial farming of freshwater and saltwater animals and plants.
It is a rapidly developing sector with a world value that exceeds that of commercial fisheries and it offers a range of careers in environmental compliance, food production, marketing and entrepreneurship.
This programme is designed to provide management and entrepreneurship training to graduates and professionals who want to develop a career in this dynamic sector.
The course team consists of academics, industry experts, marine scientists, technologists and managers. Together, they deliver a range of taught modules.
A 12-month full-time programme, the MSc may also be taken on a part-time basis, with modules spread over one to five years. In addition individual modules may be available for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Each module consists of one week’s intensive tuition at the University followed by time to complete the assignments.
The programme also includes a residential field trip to Shetland, the UK’s highest value aquaculture production area, which enables you to experience the aquaculture sector and how it integrates with the fishing and tourism industries.
For the project you can focus on a particular aquaculture topic and, depending on your subject choice, write up your research as a business plan, research dissertation, ‘proof of concept study’ or a consultancy report.
