Programme Overview

This MA enables students from a range of backgrounds to study archaeology at postgraduate level.

Through the programme you will have the opportunity to engage in cutting-edge research in archaeology to prepare you to continue your academic career with a PhD in archaeology, or to enter professions requiring high-level skills in literacy, research and project management.

Throughout the programme you have access to excellent library and archive holdings in Archaeology. There is also the opportunity to work with the exceptional University artefact collections and acquire advanced practical skills through a wide range of optional modules.

Optional field trips are available to Rome, Athens, the Lower Rhine Frontier and throughout the UK. The cost of each overseas trip is approximately £450 and this covers travel, food and accommodation.

+Entrance Requirements

An upper-second-class Honours degree, or an international equivalent, in archaeology or a related field such as history, geography or classics. We will also consider applicants on an individual basis with extensive relevant professional experience.

Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.5 in writing),TOEFL 90 (Internet-based),  Pearson's PTE Academic Test 62 or equivalent.

Our INTO Newcastle University Centre can provide extra tuition to help you meet the University's English language requirements.

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has rules for international students regarding minimum English language requirements.

There is no closing date for this programme. However, international students applying for September 2014 entry should apply by Friday 11 July 2014 to ensure that they have time to put appropriate arrangements in place.

Please note: As a formal condition of the offer to study at Newcastle University, students from outside the UK/EU are required to pay a deposit of £1,500 or submit an official letter of sponsorship for their chosen programme. The deposit payment is non refundable, but will be deducted from tuition fees upon registration.
