Programme Overview

The MSc in Game Engineering is one of the first of its kind in the United Kingdom. In collaboration with a number of high profile industrial leaders and computer game innovators, we have created an advanced programme of study to produce future leaders in the global computer games industry.

The programme will equip you with the technical skills and knowledge required to develop computer game software such as:

  • advanced techniques for programming appropriate software
  • systematic optimisation of computer game software
  • assessment of game software performance and interfaces
  • ethical issues associated with work in computer game development
  • international perspective on advancements in computer game development

Studying Computer Game Engineering at Newcastle, you will benefit from:

+Entrance Requirements

A second-class Honours degree, or international equivalent, in computing science, or a discipline with significant computing and/or mathematiocal content, such as computing, information systems, mathematics, engineering, systems engineering or physics. However, graduates with several years of computing experience are also considered.

Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (internet-based), or equivalent.

Our INTO Newcastle University Centre can provide extra tuition to help you meet the University's English language requirements.

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has rules for international students regarding minimum English language requirements.

International Students, consult your own government for funding. The University offers International Scholarships, and there are funding opportunities by external organisations available.

Students should consult their employers for sponsorship opportunities. Students on industrial placements may receive additional payments determined by their sponsoring company.

There is no closing date for this programme. However, international students applying for September 2013 entry should apply by Friday 12 July 2013 to ensure that they have time to put appropriate arrangements in place.

Please note: As a formal condition of the offer to study at Newcastle University, students from outside the UK/EU are required to pay a deposit of £1,500 or submit an official letter of sponsorship for their chosen programme. The deposit payment is non refundable, but will be deducted from tuition fees upon registration.
